Rules for Power of Attorney
Eligible POA Documents
The POA must be originally signed, properly notarized by a Vermont notary, include a complete notarial certificate, and comply with Vermont notary laws; photocopies and incomplete notarizations are not accepted.
Documents Vermont Will Not Accept
Vermont rejects POAs notarized outside Vermont, uncertified photocopies, federal documents, documents for U.S. use, and any POA containing sovereignty or World Service Authority-type language.
Submission Requirements
You must submit the original notarized POA, a completed request form, and a $10 fee per document by check or money order, either by mail or in person to VSARA.
Preliminary Review Recommended
You may email a scanned copy of the POA to SOS.StatutoryFilings@vermont.gov for pre-clearance to avoid rejection due to improper notarization.
