Certified by the County Clerk (for DOS)
For the NY Department of State to apostille a court document, it must first be certified by the County Clerk of the county where the divorce was granted. The County Clerk's certification verifies the signature of the Court Clerk. You cannot send a document signed only by a judge or court clerk directly to the NY Department of State.
Complete the Request Form
You must submit a fully completed "Authentication Request Form (PDF)" with your application. This form is mandatory.
Include Correct Payment
The fee for the NY Department of State is $10.00 per apostille/certification. Payment must be made by check or money order payable to the "New York State Department of State." Cash is not accepted.
Provide Pre-paid Return Shipping
You must include a self-addressed, stamped envelope or a pre-paid shipping label for the return of your documents. The NYDOS will not return documents without this.
