Certified Document
You must submit an original certified copy issued by the New Mexico Vital Records and Health Statistics (Bureau of Vital Records) or a County Clerk's office. It must have the original signature of the State Registrar or County Clerk.
Notarization is REQUIRED (Critical Step)
This is New Mexico's key requirement. The certified marriage certificate must be notarized by a New Mexico Notary Public before you send it to the Secretary of State. The notary must affix their seal and complete their notarial certificate. Rejection Cause: Sending the document without this notarization. The state apostilles the notary's signature, not the vital records official's signature directly.
Complete Cover Sheet
You must include a completed "Apostille/Authentication Request Form" which acts as your cover sheet. This form is available on the New Mexico Secretary of State's website and is mandatory.
Correct Payment
Include a $3.00 per apostille fee. Payment must be made by check or money order payable to "NM Secretary of State." Cash is not accepted for mail-in requests.
