Rules for Power of Attorney
The POA must be notarized by a New Hampshire Notary Public or Justice of the Peace
Only original POAs notarized in New Hampshire with the official seal are accepted for authentication.
Out-of-state notarizations are not accepted
The Secretary of State cannot authenticate photocopies or POAs notarized outside New Hampshire.
In-person submissions must be delivered to the State House.
Bring the notarized POA to Room 204, NH State House, during weekday office hours (8:00 am–4:15 pm).
Large batches may require extra time and fees
Submissions of 10+ POAs may not be same-day and add a $25 expedited fee per 10 documents.
Mail submissions must include all required items
Send the POA, completed request form, fee, and prepaid return envelope to the Secretary of State, Room 204, Concord, NH.
The authentication fee is required for each POA
$10 per document, payable by cash or check to “State of New Hampshire.”
Proper NH notarization is mandatory for apostille/authentication
The state only processes POAs notarized within New Hampshire and bearing the correct seal.
