Must Be a Certified Copy from the Court
You must submit an "Original Certified Copy" issued by the Clerk of the Circuit Court in the Michigan county where the divorce was granted. A notarized photocopy is not acceptable.
Proper Signature and Seal
The document must be signed by the Clerk of the Circuit Court (or a Deputy Clerk) and must bear the official seal of that court.
Document Must Be Complete and Unaltered
The certified copy must be in pristine condition with no tears, staple holes, or any alterations. If it is a multi-page document, all pages must be certified as one complete document by the court.
Complete the Request Form
Michigan requires a completed "Document Authentication Application" to be submitted with your request. This form is mandatory.
Correct Payment
The fee is $1.00 per apostille. Payment must be made by check or money order payable to the "State of Michigan". Cash is not accepted for mailed requests. Include a self-addressed, stamped envelope for return shipping.
