Rules for Marriage Certificate
Certified Document
You must submit an original certified copy of the marriage certificate issued by the Alaska Bureau of Vital Statistics or an Alaska Vital Records office. It must have a clear, original signature from a state official and a raised or stamped seal.
Notarization is NOT Required (and will cause rejection)
Unlike many other states, Alaska does not require a county-level verification or notarization of the Vital Records official's signature. Submitting a document that has been notarized will likely result in rejection. The document must be certified directly by the government issuing agency.
Complete Cover Sheet
You must include a completed "Authentication/Apostille Request Form" which acts as your cover sheet. This form provides your contact information and return instructions.
Correct Payment
Include the $2.00 per apostille fee. Payment must be made by check or money order payable to "State of Alaska." Do not send cash.
Pre-Paid Return Shipping
You must include a self-addressed, postage-paid return envelope (USPS Priority Mail or USPS First-Class Mail with tracking is strongly recommended). The office will not return your documents without this.
