Notarization is Mandatory
The Alaska Secretary of State does not authenticate documents directly signed by a judge, magistrate, or court clerk. The official's signature must be notarized by an Alaska Notary Public first. This is the most critical and often-missed step.
Use a Certified Copy
You must submit a "Certified Copy" of the Divorce Decree issued by the Alaska court clerk. A photocopy is not acceptable. The document must have the court's seal or stamp.
Complete the Cover Sheet
You must include a fully completed "Apostille/Certificate Cover Sheet" with your request. An incomplete or missing cover sheet will delay or reject your application.
Include Correct Payment
The fee is $2.00 per apostille. Payment must be included in the form of a check or money order payable to the "State of Alaska." Do not send cash.
